This section provides detail of  OxPolicy’s main projects, past and present. Whilst our blog aims to take a holistic view of UK policy, our real work is in producing detailed and coherent analyses of a smaller subset of issues that affect our society.

In Michaelmas 2013, OxPolicy will focus on two issues we feel are particularly pressing for the UK and indeed the world. The first, Human Trafficking, because it undermines our society through its disregard for human rights, and because of the impact on its victims. Our second topic is EU Policy on Social Exclusion, which against the background of the soverign debt crisis and the great recession seems to be a serious issue for the cohesion of our societies. Human Trafficking: MT'13

Human Traffickign Chains

Although trade in humans has been illegal for many years, it continues around the world today, including in our own country. This might be for sexual slavery, forced labour or even for the forced extraction of organs. Indeed, in the UK it is estimated that there are significantly more than 2,000 people at the mercy of traffickers at any given time. OxPolicy aims to develop a coherent picture of the problem, and examine the work of the three sectors in eliminating this terrible problem.

We will be hosting events and compiling a report on the issue alongside adding posts to our blog. Our research project has already begun, but if you are interested please contact the topic’s research coordinator, , for any more information.

The European Union: MT'13

Social Policy is made at many levels: a fact which often escapes the national media and even policy makers. This term we are exploring the different approaches and systems tackling the problem of Social Exclusion. We aim to look at areas including poverty, employment, public services and social participation rates. We intend to analyse the work that regional, national, inter-governmental and supernational institutions are undertaking in this field, highlighting what this means for the UK and examining any gaps or conflicts.
